The Prime Minister wants to raise the tone regarding group violence against law enforcement. François Bayrou hopes to put an end to it by introducing "minimum sentences," without suspended sentences, regardless of the offenses convicted.

Around twenty individuals were brought before a court in Paris on Tuesday, June 3. Some are accused of violence against police officers after Paris Saint-Germain's Champions League victory on Saturday, May 31. Others are accused of attempted robbery near the Champs-Élysées. On Monday, June 2, four people were given suspended sentences, including for mortar fire.

Today, the demands seem to be getting tougher, according to a lawyer. "Why were the demands much lower yesterday and why are we doubling or even tripling the sentences today?" asks Abdelmadjid Benamara, lawyer for several defendants. Prime Minister François Bayrou wants to put an end to acts of group violence against members of the security forces by introducing "minimum sentences" without suspension, regardless of the facts convicted.
